State Road Trip

We have been on a road trip across the United States! Our first trip was to Wisconsin where we learned about why it is called The Badger State and what a cheese head is!  We then ventured to South Dakota and to Oklahoma.  In Oklahoma, we learned that the capital building in Oklahoma City is the only capital building in the world to sit on top of an oil well!  We had Oklahoma Dirt Pudding to represent the oil (Oreos).  Today we went to Ohio where we learned that Tomato Juice is the state drink!  The class couldn't believe that something that tasted so horrible ( in their words) could be a state drink!  We also learned that Ohio is home to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame and seven United States Presidents are from that state!  We can't wait to see what state we visit next!

Happy Idiomween!

Today we celebrated idioms by the 4th and 5th grade students dressing up as their favorite idiom. I loved seeing these creative costumes!  Now, I am hopeful that we will start using idioms more in our writing!! Check out the 5th graders below dressed as an idiom. Can you figure out what idiom they are dressed as?

Voice Threads

We have been working the past few weeks on our Voice Threads that compare and contrast two Realistic Fiction texts from our past genre study. I am very happy how these turned out. The students worked hard learning how to insert and save pictures, learn new programs on Powerpoint and Voice Thread, and learned how to insert media and audio into our presentations. Click on the links below to check out these masterpieces!

On a side note, you are more than welcome to leave comments for the students, just be sure to create an account first.  Enjoy!

Mass

We helped our Mass Buddies on Wednesday, October 15 with their mass. Here are a few pictures from the event. It was a special mass for us because it was the first time we served at an entire school mass. Everyone did a fabulous job!

STEM Teamwork Activity

This past week, we participated in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activity where teams had to use the given objects (candy corn bag and toothpicks) to create the largest possible object they could make.  We talked about how important using teamwork is and the need to create a plan (hypothesis) before we begin. Groups realized that this challenge was not as simple as they originally thought!  Check out the pictures to see our use of science, technology, engineering, math, and TEAMWORK!
